The first step to growing your business is by dedicating 15-30 mins per day to consider ways to do so. Think about it — the more time you spend thinking about ways to grow your business, the more capable you become of advancing your business goals and adding new growth channels. This is simply a mind shift and it works. It has changed my life, and the lives of many of my clients, by teaching them how to think about their business differently.

Know your business goals

The first step towards growth in any business is knowing your goal. What do you want more of?

More customers?  More revenue? More brand awareness? Whatever it is, find out where it is and start there. As an entrepreneur, one of your biggest challenges is figuring out where you want to be. Asking these questions is not easy but it is necessary if you don’t want to lose sight of your goals.

Business goals are ongoing goals that are meant to grow your enterprise and ultimately impact your bottom line. But business goals can get a bit vague. That’s why I recommend setting specific, actionable process goals for your business.

Work with what you’ve got

What you’ve got now, is not your limit. It’s what you can achieve. And what you’ve got is enough.

Rather than trying to figure out how to build a better mousetrap or trying to figure out drastic changes to your entire business model, learn how to use what you’ve got.

As a founder, you have limited time, attention, and budget. The best thing you can do is take what you do best (which is probably pretty good) and do better with it. It is easier to look at your situation and work out what you need to improve on in order to get more traction and grow your business.

Do the (boring) stuff anyway

The best way to increase your business is to focus on simple things. A lot of the things you have to do in a business are neither creative nor innovative. You just do them because they are what works.

According to Statista, Google’s revenue is largely made up of advertising revenue, which amounted to 146.9 billion US dollars in 2020. But the way Google, one of the world’s largest technology and online advertising companies, ‘seals the deal’ is by sending postcards with coupons to new businesses using direct mail.

Don’t be afraid to experiment

If you’re not sure whether to follow a proven process or go with your instinct, don’t be afraid to do both – and to try something new. Risk-taking is good when trying to drive growth, and instinctual decisions may be better than fully tested plans. Maybe you’ll get lucky and your idea will work – or maybe it won’t, but that’s the nature of entrepreneurship!

As stated in this article by Think With Google, the way organizations are able to build a better, more useful experience for their customers is by experimentation and creating a culture that embraces the use of data, testing, and optimization as a means to improve the customer experience every day. This environment is called a culture of growth.

Keep a healthy perspective

There are many things that you can do to grow your business. And one of the most important is to keep your mindset healthy and steady. Our minds are very powerful devices that work best when they feel confident and energized. So, if you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed – balance yourself out with some sunlight, exercise, time with friends and family…or some combination of all three!
